Richard J. Wechter Of Counsel
Richard J. Wechter's practice is concentrated in trial work
and litigation, primarily commercial, insurance defense and real estate
related. Mr. Wechter also represents newly constructed buildings and
condominiums. Mr. Wechter has been in practice in New York for over thirty years, all of it in
litigation. Mr. Wechter is also admitted to practice in Florida, where he
handles transactional matters.
Mr. Wechter received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New
York at Albany, graduating cum laude. Mr. Wechter received his law degree from
Yeshiva University's Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law where he was selected to
the Moot Court Board.
Mr. Wechter spent over six years with the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office,
trying felony cases, supervising and training trial attorneys and conducting
criminal investigations. Mr. Wechter participated in several thousand
prosecutions during his tenure as a prosecutor.
After leaving the District Attorney's Office, Mr. Wechter has been engaged in
the private practice of law. His litigation and trial work has covered a
substantial number of areas, including real estate, insurance defense, fraud
investigations, commercial litigation, as well as product liability,
environmental and the prosecution of subrogation actions.
Mr. Wechter's reported appellate cases include Babalola v. Crystal Chemicals,
Inc., 258 A.D. 2d 367, 685 N.Y.S. 2d 679 (1st Dept.1999); Mercer v. New York
Property, 247 A.D. 2d 450, 668 N.Y.S. 2d 664 (2d Dept. 1998); St. Irene
Chrisovalantou Greek Orthodox Monastery v. Cigna Ins. Co., 226 A.D. 2d 624, 641
N.Y.S. 2d 352 (2d Dept. 1996); 145 Kisco Ave. Corp. v. Dufner Enterprises, 198
A.D. 2d 482, 604 N.Y.S. 2d 963 (2d Dept.1993)
Mr. Wechter has been a member of the Board of Directors of a two hundred and
thirty-four unit condominium association for over sixteen years, the last eleven
of which as President.
