Superior Compensation

Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C.’s expansive benefits package includes a premier health insurance plan, self-insured eye and dental coverage, a 401k, three months’ paid maternity leave, 80 percent discount on Equinox gym memberships, and a first-class working environment with built-in flexibility to accommodate the needs of our staff and their families. In addition to the benefits listed above, the firm luxuriates in bi-weekly “Spa Fridays” where employees receive a complementary massage and/or manicure in the office. Four day weekends are also made available whenever possible providing employees with an opportunity to maximize their time off in order to rest, relax, and regenerate. Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. also celebrates all significant events such as birthdays, engagements, important victories, and when a new attorney passes the bar exam.

How Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. Pays More

Although everyone receives a paycheck each pay period, Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. is the only law firm in New York City that provides an individualized revenue sharing program. Our program allows every attorney at our firm – partners and associates alike – to have the opportunity to be placed among the highest earning attorneys in New York. Rather than by seniority our attorneys pay is determined by their diligence and work ethic.

In addition to the revenue sharing program our attorneys are able to make supplementary revenue based on the amount of business they bring in. When an attorney at any level brings in new business they will receive a percentage of that new business, up to twenty percent for top performers, on top of the compensation revenue program described below.

Here’s how it works: Every attorney at the firm receives one third of their collected billable time and any attorney who brings in business will receive up to fifty-three percent of their billable time.

For example:

Scenario 1: A $625 billing rate for senior attorneys multiplied by 2,500 billed hours per year equals $1,562,500. With a collection rate of 92% (the rate for 2015), the firm would collect $1,437,500 ($1,562,500 x .92) for the year. The attorney would earn one third of this amount, total compensation of $479,166.

Scenario 2: Assuming the same $625 billing rate x 2,000 billed hours per year equals total gross compensation of $1,250,000. With a collection rate of 92% (the rate for 2015), the firm would collect $1,150,000 ($1,250,000 x .92) for the year. The attorney would earn one third of this amount, total compensation of $383,333.

Scenario 3: At a $450 billing rate for junior attorneys x 2,000 billed hours per year equals $900,000. With a collection rate of 92% (the rate for 2015), the firm would collect $828,000 (900,000 x .92) for the year. The attorney would earn one third of this amount, total compensation of $276,000.

These examples demonstrate how our revenue sharing program results in our attorneys receiving higher compensation than most attorneys at other New York law firms.

The Best Externship/Internship Program in the Country

No law firm in New York has produced a better internship and externship program in the country and this is proven by the number of attorneys who started as interns and then summer associates and many years later are the leading attorneys in their profession. Many of these attorneys have received the highest law firm awards, including Best Law Firm by Best Lawyers, Leading Real Estate Lawyer for Chambers USA, nine Super Lawyers and Rising Stars by Super Lawyers, Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers and highest possible ranking in both Legal Ability & Ethical Standards by Martindale-Hubbell. For our size, we have more externs that became full time attorneys and then Super Lawyers than any other firm in the country.

The Numbers

  • Over 80 percent of our externs either received full time employment with our firm or we assisted in placing with the judiciary or finding other employment with another law firm.
  • In the past five years, Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. has hired nine law school interns full-time after graduation.
  • More than half our attorneys, including several partners, are under the age of 40.

Our interns become lawyers in training and are part of the legal team and learn on the case or deal. Being assigned to active cases and made part of the team has given externs and interns the ability to produce amazing results. Because Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. practices only one type of law, all of our associates rapidly become experts. Our externs never make coffee or copies. Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. has some of the most challenging and most high profile cases in the nation where staff expertise really does make a difference for the client, the community and, sometimes, the nation.

Interns will participate in a wide range of tasks that may include conducting case investigation, legal research, and discovery; meeting with clients and experts; and preparing memoranda, briefs, and other legal documents for administrative, judicial and transactional proceedings.

  1. During the financial crisis, instead of layoffs, we increased by 20 percent the number of attorneys we have on staff.
