The Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York is a privately-funded not-for-profit corporation serving New York City, Long Island, and Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, Sullivan, and Rockland counties.

Almost a century ago, the BBB system was founded in New York City by the Gentlemen’s Advertising League, now known as the Ad Club of New York. The initial purpose was to curb deceptive advertising practices, which hurt legitimate business communicators as well as consumers. The Better Business Bureau is a long-time leader in business communications review, fraud prevention, and education.

BBB ratings represent the BBB’s opinion of how the business is likely to interact with its customers. The BBB rating is based on information BBB is able to obtain about the business, including complaints received from the public. BBB seeks and uses information directly from businesses and from public data sources.
