“New Mini-Condo Proposed for Empty Sliver of Tribeca,” Curbed

Your crazy person of the day is one Brandon Miller, who hopes to build condos on a Tribeca lot where there are currently none, and in the historic district, no less! But he has yet to be hanged in effigy—that we know of—perhaps because his vision is kind of a cutie. The skinny seven-story building would go up at 137 Franklin Street, on one of the neighborhood’s few empty pieces of land. It’s only three units (Miller would keep one and sell the other two), and the red-brick and steel Studio MDA design looks pretty consistent with other new landmark-sensitive residential buildings in the history-rich and simply rich-rich ‘hood, including the Pearline Soap Factory, Fairchild and 404 Greenwich Street. The community board will hold its advisory vote in August, and then it’s on to the Landmarks Preservation Committee. Anyone see trouble ahead?
